Blog Post #8 - The Future

Thursday, February 21, 2008

I've got a pretty good idea on some of the things I would like to do in the future, but as far as I know my plans are pretty flexible. I still have plenty of time to change my mind or deal with other things or opportuites that come along. First off I want to finish a years worth of college credits as a senior in high school that way I can start as a sophomore at BYU Provo. From the time I'm 19-21 I think I'm going on a 1 1/2ish year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at my own expence. I still don't know what kind of job I want yet. I've thought of being one of the following at least once in life, a lawyer, an architect, a teacher, an interior designer, a photographer, a (child) psychologist, a politition, a pediatrician, a vet, an author, a radio talkshow host, a chef/cook, working with disabled people, and that's not the end of the list. That's like my top 13 or so. I think as of today, like this second, now my top 4 are a lawyer, an architect, a teacher or psychologist, but I'm not too worried I've got time to think about it and for all I know I could end up as a receptionist in a denists office or something boring like that.

Although nothing I mentioned above had to do specifically with the piano and only one thing had to do with music or at least I think so it doesn't mean I won't enjoy the job just because it doesn't specifically deal with my top favorite activity. I'd like to do thoes things above since I would find them entertaining/fun or exciting or I can help people or work with kids/people/animals or something i would have a great time with. Just because it's not my top activity doesn't mean I won't like it.

Lastly, my future enducation and many of the jobs I would like to have will mostlikely involve science or concepts we learn when we learn science. I can also use skills I have developed in science class in my future and I will have a better knowledge about the world around me.

I hope a receptionist doesn't read this, it might not go over well. Be careful to not label careers because, like you said, you might end up doing those things in the future and you risk offending those that perform those duties for perfectly valid reasons you might not understand. Anyway, it is cool that you have a wide variety of interests. Why is it that your list of careers is so different do you think?

Its allways good to be flexible and have an open look at things. One worry i have is i have such an in depth plan for what i want to do when i grow up, im afraid that if something were to go differently i wouldn't know what to do. A lot of my classes im picking in highschool are based on my "architectual future". But what if i decide i want to do something else, i'v wasted all this time. So it is indeed very good to look at options and wow you have a long list! (Maybe that's something i should be doing)

wow, you got a lot of choices going on. I don't know too much about you but hey, you don't seem stupid. I'll just assume you will do good in whatever you want. Just don't rush your decision. My sister did and ended up wasted 1 semester because she went for computer science when she really wanted management. Still, the comp. sci. could come in useful but thats not the point. Your pretty indecisive so keep it cool and look for something you really want to do.

Wow, you really have a broad range of jobs that you had in mind. Also, even though it may seem like we have a lot of time 3 or 4 years can go by very fast. It's not like we have forever to decide. It probably would be boring as a receptionist but I'm sure they get payed a lot though because dentist/orthodontist places are rich. You also may be able to get to meet a lot of new people.

That is a ton of stuff, that you want to do. I have only a few things. I would narrow it down to a specific field then in high school and college plan around having one of those jobs.

Wow, that's a lot of choices to pick from. All your future jobs sound interesting though.

I think tis good that you have so many things that you could possibly want to do. All you have to do is pick the one you like the best!

I think you got some good options. a lot of options. I like how you added about what college you plan on going to. Listen to subbu he as some good advice, I can't believe I said that, well there is a first time for everything.
