God Particle

I found the whole concept of the article very interesting, but it was hard for me to understand it all. I thought it was neat that as I was reading I recognized many things I learned earlier this year like Rutherford, fission/fusion, atoms in general, etc. Knowing basics helped me to put together what they were saying better although there were many parts I still did not understand like quarks and gluons. If I had more time and motivation I would have taken more time and effort to understand this more clearly, at the moment I don't think I will.
Sure this is new and exciting to the scientists and most of the public, but I think we've got more important world issues that are more urgent that money should be moving toward and other problems should be addressed first before we throw money where we don't know is going. I don't mean to be so full of doubt, but I am anyways. What are our chances of finding it? Seriously? Would it be worth the risk? What would we do with it? Maybe I missed something huge in the article, but I still don't see the point. Most of you are probably thinking I'm dumb and that this particle could be the answer to our existence, the reason for everything, the source of the universe, etc., the list goes on and on, but it wouldn't make any difference to me. I have my own ideas that are very firm and not going to change, and I get them for free. No particle or scientist can change or make up my mind for me.
